I designed and built a micro-volume syringe pump for the CBC analyzer, taking it from an SLA-printed prototype to a machined stainless-steel unit in three months.

Why build it

The analyzer depended on an expensive third-party pump. Building our own removed that dependency and cut the per-unit cost of the platform.

What I built

A stepper motor drives the syringe through a lead screw and a flexible coupling, and a machined stainless-steel probe aspirates and dispenses the sample.

  • Iterated from an SLA 3D-printed prototype to a fully machined stainless-steel unit.
  • Reached 0.1 µL aspiration accuracy.
  • Integrated a pressure sensor for real-time health monitoring and failure prediction.

Result

The full R&D cycle took three months. The pump went into the CBC analyzer platform, removing a third-party dependency and reducing per-unit cost.
